Job Description Shop Keeper & Shop Keeper Assistant

Concerning both functions, as one should be able to replace and complete the other. You are coordinating daily activities and are responsible for the results of the shop. You are responsible for the ordering, delivery, stocking, facing and inventory of products a.o. keeping in contact with the Warehouse & Mail Order Manager and daily suppliers; co-ordinate the activities of the Production Manager and his/her assistants. You are responsible for the order & cleaness of the shop including the bread and fresh vegetable departement. You are leading a small team, motivating and supporting your colleagues and students. You assist the bookkeeper in various administration duties including the supply of daily turnover figures. Further keep hold on the (international) mail-order; up-dating the mail-order price list; organise the shop during residential conferences and study weeks.
You will be working in a customer service position in the shop, providing product information, advice and personal service.

As the only major macrobiotic distribution center in the Netherlands, we sell the biggest variety of macrobiotic and organic quality products in food and non-food, including macrobiotic books.

Job Description

You are coordinating daily operations at the warehouse.
Main responsibilities: keeping the warehouse structured and organised; inventory control and arrange shipments. This includes maintenance of the inventory a.o. ordering products from suppliers; directing the filling department of Deshima brand products; communication with clients and colleagues; organising deliveries to the shop in Amsterdam; packing and sending of mail-orders within Netherlands and abroad, and other marketing related logistic issues. You are responsible for the order & cleaness of the warehouse including the cool departements and side storrages, office and filling departement.

Deshima Lunch Service & Take Away & Catering is a service of the international educational center of the Kushi Institute of Europe and is located in the center of Amsterdam. As the only major macrobiotic center in Europe, we serve 6 days a week the biggest variety of macrobiotic and organic quality healthy & delicious dishes, soups, salads, condiments, pickles, snacks, home made sweet and savory pastries, desserts and drinks. We serve daily between 50-90 meals and our customers visit Deshima from all over the world.
We are offering a challenging position in an informal atmosphere where every day brings something new to learn.

Job Description

You are coordinating daily operations in the kitchen.
Main responsibilities: preparation, daily making and presentation of the dishes/snacks & condiments production using fresh and organic products; inventory and order of ingredients and products; organising the kitchen during the residential conferences and study weeks; preparation and smooth organisation of events such as catering, dinners/lunches for parties or closed groups; filling of Deshima brand products; leading and coaching a small team; motivating and supporting colleagues and students; keeping the kitchen and it’s surrounds clean, structured and organized; handling within hygiene rules; guarantee and maintain a high quality of customer service; operating the cash register. You are responsible for the order & cleaness of the kitchen including the restaurant and dining room departement.

Further responsibilities are: keeping up with the purchase and maintenance of kitchen equipment; assisting the bookkeeper in various administration duties including the supply of daily turnover figures; basic administration; being actively involved in further development of the institute.

You / Requirements

- you have already experience in a professional (macrobiotic) kitchen and/or (macrobiotic) cooking, experience in a leading role and know how to work in a team
- you are organised, structured and pro-active
- you love challenges and responsibility
- you are experienced in working efficiently at your intended aim and target
- you keep a high standard of customer service as your priority
- you have a good verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch
