Adelbert Nelissen is a pioneer in the natural foods movement in Europe since the 70’s, he is the educational director of the Kushi Institute of Europe in Amsterdam. As director of one of the oldest K.I.'s, he has organized over 50 seminars with Michio Kushi. He has taught thousands of people in over 60 countries and together with his wife and co-director Wieke, he has organized many Women's Health Seminars.

Adelbert and Wieke have met many wonderful people throughout the world and have travelled to many cities in the USA, Arabic countries, the Far East and Europe. Since the 80's they have offered courses such as Women's Health, The Art of Cooking School,
The Art of Life School, Oriental Diagnosis, Spiritual Seminar,
5 Transformations, Nine Star Ki Astrology and The Way to Health, Vitality & Strength

When they travel to places where some macrobiotic foods are not available, they will carry the food in their suitcases or have it shipped by Deshima Mail Order Service. Sometimes they travel together with cooks who prepare meals for the participants of a seminar. Often they will do research on the local products available and the traditional kitchen of the area, with respect to eating traditions and culture.
